Fresh from their convincing 3-1 victory over Manchester United's North-West rivals, Liverpool, West Ham will make the journey to Old Trafford this Saturday. The Hammers ,who are in good form, are currently sitting in 8th place on the table above Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton, and Tottenham. Looking to put last weekend's collapse against Leicester City behind them, Manchester United will want to win in big fashion this weekend. The Red Devils, with five matches played, have surprisingly only earned five points. Although it is still early in the season, three points from this weekend's match are necessary in order to keep the goal of Champions League in sight.
Due to United's determination to put last weekend's result behind them and their dangerous attacking options, West Ham may find it difficult to get anything out of this weekend's match. With the likes of Falcao, Rooney, van Persie, Mata, Herrera and Di Maria, the Hammer's defense will be under immense pressure and will be suspect to crack. This being said, Manchester United still lack an experienced, leading figure in the back. West Ham could certainly get one or two past David De Gea and put the Reds under pressure. Manchester United will have to finish their opportunities and defend as a team in order to beat a hard working West Ham side this weekend.
Team News
Manchester United's defensive injuries continue as Chris Smalling, who has just recently returned to fitness, has pick up a knock in training this week and is questionable for Saturday's match. Another center back, Jonny Evans went down around the 30th minute of the Leicester City match, and has gotten a scan on his foot. It looks as though he will be out for at least a month. Other injuries include, Fellaini, Young, Jones, and Lingard. Also, Tyler Blackett will not feature on Saturday as he is serving his suspension due to earning a red card in last weekend's match. However, some good news for United fans is the return of Michael Carrick to training as he works his way up to match fitness.
West Ham, similar to United, also have a substantial amount of injuries. Target forward, Andy Carrol, has sustained in ankle injury and will be out until mid November. Other Hammer's injuries include O'Brien and Kouyate. Both Nolan and Jarvis have returned to training but will not be fit to feature in this weekend's match.
Head to Head
Manchester United has faced West Ham 107 times. The Red Devils were victorious in 52 matches and West Ham victorious in 31 matches.
Possible Lineups
Manchester United- David De Gea, Rafael, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Mata, Rooney, Falcao (Manager, Louis Van Gaal)
West Ham- Adrian, Demel, Reid, Tomkins, Cresswell, Downing, Amalfitano, Song, Noble, Sakho, Valencia (Manager, Sam Allardyce)
Prediction
With Manchester United in desperate need of the full three points, I predict a 3-1 victory for the Red Devils.
