The group stage of Brazil 2014 is well underway with all teams having now completed their first games.
Group E
Group E got underway as Switzerland beat Ecuador 2-1 in a late, late show.
Enner Valencia gave the South Americans the lead after 22 minutes before Mehmedi equalised moments after coming on as a second half substitute.
Both teams looked like they were happy to play out the latter stages of the game for a draw, but with just seconds left on the clock Switzerland broke away down their left and another substitute, Haris Seferovic, lashed in Rodriguez's cross to break Ecuadorian hearts.
In the other match in the group France beat Hondurasconvincingly 3-0.
The French were well on top against the overly physical Hondurans, but could have gone down to ten men as Pogbareacted to what looked like a deliberate stamp from Winston Palacios.
Both players escaped with just a yellow card, but just before half time Palacios barged into Pogba in the area and was shown a second yellow for his troubles.
Karim Benzema dispatched the resulting penalty and France never looked back.
Benzema was involved in the second goal just after the break as his volley smashed against the inside of the far post and bounced across the goal-line before hitting the unfortunateValladares.
The Honduran keeper clawed the ball away, but the new goal-line technology rightly ruled the ball had gone over the line and the goal was given.
Benzema added his second late on as he smashed home afterGriezmann's initial effort had been blocked.
The French will be pleased to get through the game without any major injury concerns after the rigged encounter.
Group F
Argentina got their World Cup underway with a 2-1 win over Bosnia.
It was a perfect start to the game for Argentina as Kolasinacturned into his own net after just three minutes.
The Argentines struggled to get going at times, but LionelMessi underlined his star billing as he added a second after 65 minutes when he coolly slotted the ball home from the edge of the area after a mazy run.
Bosnia made their opponents sweat as they pulled a goal back with six minutes left on the clock as Ibisevic scored with an angled drive, but La Albiceleste held on to earn the points.
The other game of the group saw the first draw of the tournament as Carlos Quiroz's Iran side held Nigeria to a 0-0 draw.
It was a poor game, with neither side showing any real quality and despite the Nigerians having the majority of possession they were grateful to goalkeeper Enyeama as he kept out a Reza Ghoochannejad header.
Group G
Germany made a sparkling start to their tournament by thrashing Portugal 4-0.
The Germans scored the opener after 12 minutes after Pereira had hauled down Mario Gotze in the box.
Pereira was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card, but Muller exacted more than enough punishment as he dispatched the spot kick easily.
Mats Hummels added a second as he out-muscled Pepe to head home a Toni Kroos corner after half an hour before Pepehad a brain explosion.
Having tussled with Muller, the Portuguese defender was unimpressed with the German's reaction to a challenge and remonstrated with him by thrusting his head into Muller's face.
It was a moment of madness from such an experienced but temperamental central defender and he was immediately shown the red card.
Things got worse for Portugal before the break as Muller reacted quicker than Bruno Alves to lash home a third.
The second half was less traumatic for Portugal, although they did lose Fabio Coentrao to a groin injury that could see the end of his tournament.
Schurrle supplied a cross late on which Rui Patricio failed to hold and Muller was on hand to turn the ball in from close range to seal his hat trick.
Cristiano Ronaldo forced a save from Neuer as he lashed a free kick late on, but the Germans were comprehensive victors.
There was drama late on as the USA left it very late to deny Ghana a point in the second group game.
Clint Dempsey gave the Americans the dream start as he scored after just 30 seconds having evaded a challenge and shot across the keeper.
Ghana levelled with just eight minutes remaining as AndreAyew latched on to a clever back heel by Gyan to beat Tim Howard with a well struck shot.
The USA weren't finished though, and Brooks headed a corner in from six yards four minutes later to give his side a 2-1 victory.
Group H
Much fancied Belgium didn't have it their own way against Algeria as they struggled to a 2-1 win.
Algeria took the lead as Feghouli was fouled by JanVertonghen midway through the first half and the forward brushed himself down to send the penalty past Courtois.
Belgium, with seven Premier League players starting, laboured to try and get back into the game, but they finally managed to pull level with a fine header from substituteMarouane Fellaini with 20 minutes to go.
Fellaini rose to nod a Kevin de Bruyne cross into the top corner and nine minutes later Eden Hazard found another substitute, Dries Mertens, who lashed home to give the Belgians a hard fought victory.
Russia almost handed South Korea victory as a goalkeeping blunder by Igor Akinfeev gifted the Koreans the lead.
Akinfeev let a speculative shot from Lee Keun-ho slip through his fingers after 68 minutes before Kerzhakovlevelled six minutes later after a defensive error.
Dzagoev's effort was saved by the Korean keeper, but the clearance cannoned into Kerzhakov, who swivelled to turn the ball in from close range.
Neither side could find a way through in the last 15 minutes although Russia came closest, but in the end they were beaten by the clock.
