Not for the first time Netherlands performance has left Man United fans giddy at the prospect of Louis Van Gaal becoming the manager of Manchester United as the mighty oranges beat Brazil 0-3 suggesting a sign of better things to come for Man United. It didn't take long for Holland to open the scoring and demolish what little hope there was of a Brazil win. The goal came inside the 3rd minute from a Van Persie spot kick after Thiago Silva brought down Robben just outside the penalty area, however the referee awarded a penalty and a more controversial yellow card. It was clear to see that Thiago Silva was last man and that Robben was denied a clear goal scoring opportunity unfortunately the referee only brandished a yellow, reluctant to send a Brazilian player off so early in front of the potentially angry Brazilian crowd.
Netherlands doubled there score just 15 minutes after as David Luiz made another woeful decision to head the ball clear to the feet of Daley Blind who was standing on the edge of the penalty area ready to slot the ball home, leaving the Brazil fans in silence. David Luiz could have easily headed the ball out for a corner but his lack of defensive knowledge let him down once again leading people to question his 50 million Euro price tag and PSG fans to burry their head in their hands. David Luiz has already shown his attacking quality this world cup with a beautiful free kick and some marvellous passes and runs. The only thing that has let him down massively is his defending and lack of discipline to stay in his defensive position. This is worrying for PSG fans as he lacks the skills that are essential for any good defender. Thiago Silva had to tell him off more then once during the match for straying from his position.
Many people have praised David Luiz for the passion he and many other Brazilian players have shown when singing the National anthem, some people have criticised England for not showing this. The fact that David Luiz is the player with the most passion in the Brazil squad and is often referred to as the National cheerleader but puts in a performance such as the one verse Germany suggests that passion isn't everything. Furthermore, most of the German national team sing their National anthem without much passion and some of their players don't even sing the National anthem at all, but then put on some master class performances such as the one against Brazil suggests that passion is not such a great thing as everyone makes it out to be and staying calm can actually prove to be the better option.
Georginio Wijnaldum rounded off Netherlands impressive display in the 91st minute scoring a tap in from a perfectly time cross by Janmaat to make the final score 3-0 to Netherlands and securing Netherlands 3rd place finish in the world cup. Although Netherlands did not reach the final of the world cup they certainty went above there perceived expectations. The fact that Louis Van Gaal has got so far with such an average squad makes me believe that he is the right man for the job of Manchester United manager and will be lifting trophies for many years to come as the manager of one of the greatest clubs in the world.
